Empowerment and Self-confidence
Camp Kupugani is a multicultural summer camp with a large focus on empowerment. The main proponent of empowerment is self-confidence, which–clearly an important thing to have as a world changer–but why? Let’s break it apart a bit. The root of confidence is the word “confide,” also meaning “to reveal”. With confidence, we reveal a commitment to trust, loyalty and honesty. A person without confidence is typically viewed as having a lack of drive and passion, and aversion to any risk. On the contrary, confidence equates or exudes competence. Confident people understand ourselves as beings and can express who we are without shame. Confidence engenders trust and helps us with communication. As confident communicators, we can make points known and express them with assurance. Confidence also impacts our enjoyment of life. Embracing confident inner selves precludes preoccupation with, for example, issues such as negative body/self-image, irrational fears, substance abuse, anxiety, procrastination, etc. As confident people, we can be comfortable with who we are and shout for joy because of it!
Building confidence is a lot like building muscles; you have to work at it to make it happen. And as world changers, confidence helps us get our cause out there to other people! If you want others to “join” your campaign, you need to believe in yourself, before you can believe in IT. How are you going to become the confident world changer we know you are?
